Second-hand phones, computers and consoles: what to check
A used device can be checked in a few minutes. These checks protect the buyer as much as the seller.
Phones
Dial *#06# to show the IMEI and compare it with the one on the box. Before selling, sign out of iCloud or Google, then reset the phone: otherwise it stays locked for the buyer.
Battery and screen
On an iPhone, battery health is under Settings > Battery. Before paying, test the touchscreen across its whole surface, the camera, the microphone, the speaker and charging.
Computers and consoles
Give the exact model, processor, memory and storage. For a console, say whether your account has been removed and which controllers and cables are included.
