Renting a caftan or takchita: deposit, fitting, return
Renting a caftan on Trokido: book on a calendar, pay cash plus a deposit at handover, close with a return code. Settle fitting and cleaning first.
On 10 December 2025, at its 20th session in New Delhi, the UNESCO committee inscribed “The Moroccan caftan: arts, traditions and know-how” on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. For a wedding or a party, it can also be rented. Here is how a rental works on Trokido, and what is best agreed before the big day.
Booking: dates, request, answer
A rental outfit’s page shows its calendar and the days already booked. You pick your dates and send the request. The owner accepts or declines it in the messaging within a set time; with no answer, the request expires and you pay nothing. The maximum booking length and the response time are on the Rentals page.
Try it on before you commit
A takchita is worn in two pieces and the cut varies from one dressmaker to another: the size on the label is not enough. Ask for the exact measurements (bust, waist, length) in the messaging, then for a fitting if the owner lives in your city. Agree in writing on who pays for an alteration, and whether it must be undone on return.
Pay at handover, with the deposit
There is no online payment. At the in-person handover you give your handover code, then pay the rental and the deposit in cash. The deposit amount is shown on the outfit’s page.
Before leaving with the outfit, photograph it together in good light: embroidery, beads, buttons, belt, lining. A stain or pulled thread noted in the messaging that day cannot be held against you on return.
Returning the outfit
On return, you give your return code and the owner gives the deposit back, provided the outfit comes back in good condition. That leaves cleaning. Settle it before booking: who pays for it, and whether dry cleaning is required.
For owners
Outfits for rent are published in the Takchitas and caftans section; the rental rules are on the Rentals page.
